Are you making changes to your chess subscriptions in light of the Play Magnus & Chess.com merger?

So as of this week;

  • chess24
  • chessable
  • aimchess
  • magnus chess academy
  • play magnus app suite
  • ichess
  • new in chess
  • gingergm (no subs?)
  • everyman chess (no subs?)

AND

  • chess.com
  • chesskid
  • dr wolf
  • champion chess

Are all owned by Chess.com

Currently (I think?) nearly all of these either; are subscriptions, or have subscription options, and (I think?) they are all separate subscriptions. It's not clear (at least to me?) yet if, or how, they will be combined.

Is this affecting your subscription choices at the moment? Are you not starting or renewing subscriptions you would have otherwise? Are you subscribing monthly rather than annually until announcements are made?

Just curious what others are doing because it is on my mind.

No.   I would give them at least a couple of months to figure out where they are going with everything.

There hasn't been anything released at this time, other than that currently, there have been no changes to the acquired site offerings.

On the State of Chess.com broadcast, it was mentioned , as an example, that there would be promotions/discounts on Chessable courses for Chess.com members occasionally.

There's a good likelihood that some things will be removed, some will remain the same, and some will be modified. Since the acquisition closed December 16th, it will probably be a while before details on any individual offerings are released and likely will be released to members of those sites first.

Malestate

I just downloaded Dr Wolf and was surprised given they're owned by chess.com that there was no way to log in using my chess.com subscription. I would be surprised if they don't create a unified login and at the very least allow you to either subscribe separately or gain access if you're diamond tier. I will sign up for a monthly rather than annual subscription in anticipation of this. But I understand the devs are all frantically typing away in the engine room just trying to keep the site up at the moment, thanks to Mittens, so I won't expect anything immediately.

I've been a diamond level chess.com subscriber for many years, but this may change. I had an account on chess24 and its nearly worthless as I cannot download PGNs anymore, I immediately get redirected to chess.com. I can watch tournaments on chess24, which is great, but that's all its good for now as I never played on that site. Chess.com should not break things on their other sites without offering alternatives first. As it is, I already spend most of my time on lichess anyway as it has something no other site I know of has: the 'Study' feature, which allows my remote friends and I to view and analyze a tournament game at the same time. Why should I pay money to chess.com when they don't provide anything I can't find on other less expensive or free sites? Yes, I'm reconsidering.
