Are you supposed to accept a rematch offer on live chess?

I sometimes run after the bus.

Never after a tram of course!

i do run 5K races and sometimes 10Ks

I ran half a block this morning to see how our current rescue dog does with running. Further than that could blow out my knees, especially on concrete.

When I was much younger I ran a lot of five-mile and 10K races and one 10 mile race. I was aiming to run a marathon when I sustained an injury that put an end to serious running.

Of course, I run from rematches. It gives me good exercise defending this practice in chess.com forums.

Once, I beat someone in live chess. He offered me in a rematch, I accepted, and proceeded to beat him again. He offered another rematch, and I, wanting to play someone else, declined the offer. I played a few more games, went offline, and found a note on my wall that said "runner" from the person who sent me the rematch offer which I declined.

Now, although it might not seem like it, I've been on this sight for approx. 3 years now (I've closed my other account due to me falling behind in grades), and from what I've observed within that time (mainly notes on other member's walls), it seems to be rude or cowardly to decline a rematch offer. This, to me, makes zero sense: I want to play someone else, how does that make me a coward?

Does anyone have any experience/insight on this topic? I simply just do not understand the "harm" or "disrespect" in not taking a rematch offer.

are you getting better grades in school now?

I just played a rematch with someone to be nice to them.

I also posted a note on their profile to display that the reason why I played a rematch with them was on purpose.  Because I wanted to show you all that playing a rematch with someone is a nice thing to do.

now this thread can end and we can all live happily ever after

Calling someone a runner makes it sound like you believe you have a chance to beat them next time.

Even though for some opponents this "chance" is <.00001% Laughing

Yep, I don't want anyone giving me a rematch after beating all the crap out of me! That is rage.

Rematch, a great way to consolidate a true victory.

I don't see the point in playing a rematch just to be nice. If I like the person's playing style, I'll accept a rematch if they offer one or very occasionally I'll ask for a rematch myself. Also if somebody is nice in the chat I'll be more likely to play them more games. For all of the people who might call me a runner, I've turned off my profile comments to strangers so that only friendly fellow chess players or friends from other websites can comment.

I don't call people like you runners.

I call people like you Spineless Jelly Fish.

I am not really trolling. It is a person stance.

Since, we all share in different view points.

I am only sharing my view point.

I am sure many others out there agree with me on this issue.

They are running away from tougher competition. People who run away from tougher competition would be seen as cowardly or spineless.

Me calling them a jelly fish is actually putting it in a very nice and sugar coated way.

Some could agrue I am not being a troll but more like a saint for not out right calling them guttless cowards or spineless yellow belly's.

If they are gutless, at least they don't fart.

When i win with white and someone asks for a rematch i will accept unless i am pressed for time. But I might not accept if i have just won with black.

It is entirely up to you. It's not rude to decline a match even if you don't have a legitimate reason. It would be rude if you declined a rematch over a physical chessboard just because you're ahead. But this is the internet, and your opponent is a faceless stranger playing behind a veil. If you don't feel like playing another game with them, it's your right.

I mean, you sign up for just one game when you click on that "Start Game" button. People like X_PLAYER_J_X are people who don't understand that you don't have to observe EVERY social etiquette when you're on the internet, as long as you're not harming them physically or emotionally.

People like me are not Jelly Fish!

We are not afraid of our opponents getting a revenge match to try and beat us because we are more than confident in our chess ability to crush them once again.

I want to make 1 thing clear. I am not talking about people who play 1 game than have an emergency and have to leave which is why they can't do rematch at that specific time.

Obviously if something comes up in real life which could be seen as serious than that should take precedence over a game of any sort.

What I am talking about specifically is people who intentionally refuse to do rematches for reasons such as they don't want there opponents ego to get big, they dont want there opponents to get revenge matches, they don't feel like playing against an opponent because of the opponents line choice(they think its boring), and/or they feel like taking there 1 game and running away.

Obviously the above reason I have heard through the course of my chess.com experince is some of the above reason which I hate to say it but they are weak excuses.

Plain old Jelly fish excuses.
