In fact what I need is to play human vs computer or computer vs computer starting from any position and trying to figure out how to do it, I found that is even not possible to play human vs human :-(
Arena makes me crazy

I set it in Game Data but no way as soon as I click in new, or I directly move without use new, one of the sides become computer :-(
Thanks!
Have you considered using a chess set and board? They may be old school but cheap sets can still be obtained.

Click 'EDIT' which is beside the analysis. Then you can move without the computer responding. If you want to see the best move/evaluation without the computer moving something on the board, then click 'ANALYSE'

Yeah, you can click on Edit, but it doesn't really display the clocks properly in a human vs. human game. That's because Arena wasn't really designed for human vs. human games.
In this case, I recommend that you use something else.

A few free chess GUIs that allow human-human games:
1) Crafty Chess Interface:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/craftychessinterface/
2) NagaSkaki:

3) Slow Chess Blitz:

4) ChessGUI - You can set up a human vs. human tournament in this GUI. Note that the author might be deleting his web page any day now:
Thanks EscherehcsE !
And of course WinBoard
http://www.open-aurec.com/wbforum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=51528
for if you want keep things simple. Just tick 'View or edit Chess games' in the sttartup dialog, and it will not invoke an engine, and allow you to play for both sides.
