"...the number of articulate grandmasters can be counted on the fingers of one maimed hand."

Who made this wonderful observation and how maimed was the had he is referring to?

Was it?  I got it out of a book by Larry Evans and he doesn't attribute the quote to anyone else

I don't know where that quote comes from -- I never heard it before -- but it's a great quote!

1. Kasparov...2. Carlsen...3. Lasker...is that it?

Fischer, for better or for worse. Tartakower, surely, and Tal is delightfully amusing in his writing and quips. I particularly enjoy his hippo anecdote. Lasker was also well-spoken, I believe, and Joseph Henry Blackburne was no slouch either. Steinitz would have to be articulate to fight his 'Ink War', no doubt. If we're talking modern grandmasters, well... not sure.
