as a mix luxury/everyday chess set: 3.7" Emperor Series Staunto set- RCM Double Weighted Rosewood

I'd suggest that the set is too ornate for everyday use. Something simpler and more "standard" would seem better as a "daily driver".

Thanks,
Well come to it the concept of 'every day chess' piece applies to a niche minority in the world anyway. Like most people don't even play chess. What I correlate to is watches, except those select 1-2% of the world who love and spend big on watches, rest of humanity will question any watch more than a few hundred dollars as overpriced and won't 'get it'. Same here, I mean just hard to spend hundreds on a set that looks like a simple Dubrovnik or Jaques Knight or even simpler. Moat people not in the Niche pro players group would look for Quality/workmanship to $ ratio. lol. That's why I thought I definitely am not in the Niche 1% who play chess everyday and if I get to spend on something that shows is exactly someones else's 'overdone/overkill' perspective.
Just explaining myself, BTW I did buy the pieces and once arrive I owe to the group to send photos and give impressions.
Thanks
Hydar

It's a beautiful set. May not be an "every day" playing set, but that largely depends on what your own situation is: If you don't do tournament or club playing but rather play at home, then it might work as a playing set, too. As a display set's it's lovely.

Nice set @Hydar456789. I hope you'll post some pics after you receive them. I once said that I'd never buy a set for more than $200 (US) since that would just be too fancy for me, but since that set only costs $187 when bought directly from RCM, I guess I could still consider it an 'everyday' set (some of us know how to shop better than others ). But then again, my somewhat arbitrary guideline only pertains to myself. And similar to your watch analogy, a watch appraiser friend (who gets paid to travel the world for that purpose), once told me that any watch over $3000 is only valued on speculation. Then I told that to another friend...who wore an $87,000 watch...daily. So ... you do you, and enjoy.

When you buy direct from RCM. And pay $187 you will be buying a damaged chess set.
The RCM price direct is $249 for a undamaged set.
The Etsy price from RCM is $206.
😄
Nope, you are incorrect (again). The undamaged set is $187 ... the 'imperfect' set is even less.

That is not true... I will just post the screen shot of the page when I get home.
The price for a undamaged set is $249 from RCM direct.
Don't bother... I'll show you how to shop.

So you can buy the damaged set for the same price. That is insane by RCM
Looks like you misread the part about those being "even less". You seem to do that a lot.

I did not.
But if RCM wants to give you another $62 discount. That is not on their web page. And you only know about it after you put the chess set in you cart to buy.
Then I would buy that set.
And this does not happen with the 187 dollar damaged set.
I don't know where you're looking...cuz the discount codes are clearly advertised on their site all the time. And you're still misreading (again) if you think the 'imperfect' set is $187.

I did not use a discount code. So the damage and undamaged set is $187.
And again...the 'imperfect' set is "even less" without the discount code. And it's reduced even further with the code. It's really starting to seem like you're just making stuff up again, cuz I know you don't see an 'imperfect' set on the RCM site for $187.

Can you show it. I got no further discount on the damaged chess set. So I can only buy them both for 187 dollars...
I guess I can show it, if you can show the set for $187.

Sites like RCM, CB, HoS, etc. almost always have discounts of various amounts that you can apply to the listed price. Let's look at...HoS today. Looks like the current discount code is "CASTLE", which is good for 10% off items not already discounted (Clearance, Imperfects). The percentage of the discount changes regularly, especially around holidays, or perhaps in regard to important chess tournaments or things like that.
The point of all that is that the listed price is not the real price. Unless you are blind and do not see the ad banners, normally at the top of the page, the "real" price is the discounted price. I have seen some sites advertise big discounts, but if you are observant, you will notice the base price (undiscounted) has been increased before the sale began. Just remember, businesses exist to make money, so always realize the discounted price is still making them money, and they are quite happy with the price you are paying.

Thanks,

Categorizing a chess set as an everyday chess set is interesting. I mainly categorize my sets as 1) playing outdoors and time controls that have time scrambles. 2) everything else. In category 1 I mainly use my Ultimate plastic sets in the park when at least some of the games will be blitz. Otherwise, I mainly use my wooden sets. I was enjoying an evening of blitz and rapid in NYCs ChessForum last week with my SC 3.5" Cooke in ebony.
Hey everyone,
initially was doing chess research and wanted to buy a nice set, was going all those over the top overdone ones like Wellington, Arabian knight etc....and these have 4.4 inch kings and very large.
Many recommended like for everyday get a good set like Jaques, Dubrovnik, etc...
Anyway, I did feel 3.75 inch plastic set and now I get a sense of size, realised thats the biggest I would get.
Just wanted what people think of the this set, see title and attached photo.
Nice its 3.7 Inch, wood, and the Knight is done well definitely the craftsmanship show in the design, but seems way less size and carving compared to those 4.4 Inch sets....
Would anyone take this as a daily set at home? Any cons I'm not looking at?
Thanks!
