Hello Cgrau

I love this set. Am looking to buy some vintage pieces specifically from the flohr series. Would you mind sharing what would be the best source in terms of authenticity as well as safety for procuring such master pieces.

Interesting to read about the difference in origin of 2 historically important versions of soviet set

Nice design, but the knight seems weird. I dont see it being accurate .

I've been posting about the confusion surrounding the Botvinnik Flohr contests from their match in 1933 to the 1936 Moscow Tournament, focusing on the pieces used in those tournaments. Recently I acquired a a Soviet set resembling that used in the 1933 Botvinnik-Flohr match, the set that Chess Bazaar and House of Staunton recently have reproduced.

The red and black pieces are in good vintage condition. The set is well-weighted for a mass-market Soviet set, at 608 grams. The kings are 3.7". They are shown here on a roll-up vintage West German board with 50 mm squares.

Beautiful pieces! Are they true red, or more magenta/fuchsia? I don’t know if the photos represent the true colors accurately, but I really like how they appear with the cooler (magenta) color.

They truly are magenta. I have one other Soviet set in magenta, a Laughing Knight set. I love the color but it's hard to match with a board, and as you know, I collect playing sets and like to play with the sets I collect.
