Hi Axel sir,

I have a couple questions to ask you about the game of chess:

What is the one of the most efficient ways for a Chess player to grow?

What time standard will a Chess player in a tournament that revolves around players playing chess for 1-2 hours?

How do we develop prophylactic thinking and what methods will develop this?

For a 1100+ player, what would be the method to help them grow to lets say 1600-1800 range?

Bonus Question: Who inspired you to play chess?

1. Tactical puzzles
2. Not sure what you mean, however I consider rapid games (e.g. 15 min + 5 sec/move) to lead to good games where you can learn a lot
3. Use it deliberately for a few tournaments, to make it an automatic part of your thinking process.
4. Spend time on chess.
5. My grandfather.

Pumping Up? No AI involved, just not complicating answers too much.

And having a bad that forced me to learn using all the fingers on the keyboard when I was 14, for which I am immensely grateful. As a journalist it's handy to be able to write while others speak.
I am about to start to force my daughter to learn it.

Sorry, no.
But with the Indian chess wonder, anything is possible ...

Obviously not AI, it's just so impressive how you're able to formulate such intricate responses in such a short time frame. Really cool to see how much you're willing to help the community!

How can i win at chess since I started playing all i do is trade pieces and go to an endgame and win lose or draw Then i started to learn some openings.. and i always get an advantage in the opening according to the computer but there is no clear way for me to transfer that advantage to a win and if i get an advantage from a Gambit i will lose in the end game because of that missing piece is there a book or tutorial on how i can win from a winning position ?

I find quite a few videos online googling "how to win won positions", but I have not seen them and can't say if they are helpful. I guess it's much about understanding what kind of mistakes you have done in the games you have not won. Tactical mistakes? Playing too cautiously?

Hey Axel!

I have a pretty technical question. If someone with K-factor crosses 2300 FIDE rating, their K-factor drops to 20, and K-factor also drops if they play more than 18 games in a month. So wouldn't it be easy to reach 2299, prepare really hard for a few months and play 2 tournaments in the same month, playing 18 games with K-factor 40, increase a monumental 150-200 elo in each tournament and jump straight into 2600-2700 territory? I'm considering trying this myself since I want to quit chess by college and it may be possible to do it as a world top-100 player. Love to know what you think and if it may actually be possible!

Im just saying even if what you said worked getting to 2299 would be hard in itself especially if you don't have enough time to college

How about a "Guess the Move" engine into which one could load any game and the engine would rate the moves attempted by the student and provide a rating estimate at the end. This would be superior to mere puzzles, as there would be a flow and continuity of ideas. Are you aware of any such, downloadable or online?

I don't know any, but it sounds like a good idea, especially if the game uploaded would be annotated. You should even get some statistics on what kind of mistakes you are doing: tactical, pawn levers, piece placement. It will be a hit if you create it! happy.png

Should I play longer time controls or should I just play what Ive played for some time now?

Would you recommend that Chess.com install Hand & Brain Chess as one of its variants to help improvers? I find this an interesting and amusing way to engage players of different abilities in the game.

Why not? I find it interesting to watch to see how hard it is for players to resist the temptation to "cheat" and give advice to your playing partner.

Hey GM Axel!

I am currently rated around 2200 for both blitz and bullet. When you were at my level, around 1800 fide. What do you think was the number one mistake you were making?

When I improved my elo a lot, there was three months between the lists, so I could play 93 games with my low rating.
Years later, I had a friend who declined playing an important team match because he didn't want to pass 2400 before the summer. Not a good team spirit, I think.
For your suggestion, consider you have 2299 and play 18 games with K 40. If you perform 2500, I think you increase your elo around 180 points, so still you don't end up higher than your performance. So I think it doesn't work.

Alright, bye Axel and thanks!

How do I increase my accuracy in games?

bigpoison

"Pragmatic and ambitious!" I thought that was great advice. For chess and life.

Would you recommend being a coach for low rated players in an effort to increase your rating and help others do the same simultaneously?

Not for improving (even though it is at least slightly helpful), but doing it to help others is enough of an argument, if you also enjoy it.

I can work with that!

Wait what

The quotes broke?
