If you count the big one it should be an odd number

The other odd numbers add up to end with an even number.

"The French Defence is named after a match played by correspondence between the cities of London and Paris in 1834 (although earlier examples of games with the opening do exist). It was Chamouillet, one of the players of the Paris team, who persuaded the others to adopt this defence" - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Defence

Whenever I play the stringoy-khatzen defence, I like to string my opponent along a bit, take off my hat, adopt the zen position, and when I've won, shout oy oy!
