At what rating does the Fried Liver stop working?

I Fried Liver-ed my opponent and had a perfect game! As fun as that opening is to play, it looks like something that'll stop working eventually. I use the Italian game often, but at what rating should I expect people to stop playing nf6 on turn 3?

Never. GMs play it.

As an easy way to win with opening traps, expect it to stop working at around 1200. As a known viable opening for both sides, it still works, as already mentioned.

I never see it. Then again, I don’t respond to e4 with e5. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ng5 is played at all levels but people stop allowing the fried liver probably at around 1000-1300

Many seem to have a misconception about what the Fried Liver Attack is. It does not start with 4. Ng5. It starts with a Knight sac on f7 in this line:

Black can easily avoid it by simply not playing 5...Nxd5. I'd say you'll hardly find anyone above 1400-1500 playing into the Fried Liver.

By the way, the Fried Liver may not even be the best response against 5...Nxd5. The Lolli Attack 6.d4 is probably preferable.

A line or strategy isnt "bad" or "stop working" at a certain level. You will encounter fewer mistakes as you progress. Sometimes the "bad" positions work better because your opponent forgets how to play them.

Well, I think we know it anecdotally. Once you reach 1200, everyone should know that the Polerio is the way to do it; I have not Fried Livered anyone in a very long time.
