in live chess, no: due to time
however in online chess i could see this being implemented, but then it ignores the possibility of offering draw.

Two very valid points. I don't exactly want to see this happen, I just thought it would make a good discussion.
Against human players, definitely no auto-move in case of making the only legal move. If players can find the only move, they should play it instead of getting some automated response play the move for them.
Now, there is pre-moveing option in live play and conditional moves in online/correspondance games. Those should be suffice in term of time/energy saving if you already know what to move.
I'm curious to see what other's opinions are on this matter. Do you think there should be an automatic move if there is only one legal move? Maybe it could be an option in your game settings.
The reason I thought of this is because it always makes me chuckle when you are playing against the computer, and the computer takes a long time to figure out which of the 1 legal moves it can make is the best.
