I'm not sure what the average FIDE rating is but it is actually a little hard to get a FIDE rating, depending on where you are, and for a long time, if you didn't qualify for at least a 2000 rating, you couldn't get a rating. They have relaxed that now but I would think that history will play into the average being higher than expected.
Average fide rating
Yeah that's true that some countries has their own rating like USA where only few players has a FIDE rating. But, in France almost everyone has a FIDE rating, so i guess knowing the average FIDE rating in France would be more accurate if I want to know the average level of club players?

Maybe. I don't follow all the rule changes but when they started allowing sub-2000 it didn't immediately drop to the minimum of 1000, so those decreases may also play into the averages some.
Here is an article a few years old that may have some pertinent information: http://en.chessbase.com/post/sonas-overall-review-of-the-fide-rating-system-220813
Hello, I would be curious to know what is the average FIDE rating? I heard somewhere that it was something around 1750-1800, but I'm not sure about the source and this seems pretty high to me.
So if anyone knows something about the subjet, let me know
Ps: On chess.com the stats shows that I'm better than 99.5% of players (in blitz), but I'd only be at the average of FIDE chess players (as I'm around 1800 FIDE), I know there are a lot more chess.com players than FIDE players but still the difference seems very high to me.
