Who plays N(6)-d7? Doesn't Black simply win a Pawn by 5. ... dxc5 6. dxc5 Qxd1+ and THEN 7. ... N(6)-d7?

In any case, Black's compensation for White's advanced Pawns is... White's advanced Pawns! Those Pawn moves are by no means unilaterally favorable to White. Every Pawn advance leaves weak squares in its wake. For instance, after pushing those Pawns to e5 and c5, White can no longer control either d4 or d5 with his Pawns.
