the hyperdmoderniam school decries your analysis...how foolish to believe that ego or tempo or structure is not an equal or greater value..you who play on an internet board have forgotten the great psychology of chess...so foolish of you to think it is but a game of memorization..what fools you are..

1.Development.
Development is an important principle to keep in mind when it comes to principles. Development doesnt mean developing 1 or 2 pieces. It means developing all the minor pieces, queen and conneting the rooks! In the opening, avoid moving 1 piece more than once and for that you have to develop your piece(s) in such a manner that they dont get attacked in the opening itself. The better you will develop the more squares will be under your control which means more space advantage for you!
2. control of the centre.
Always remember, the most attacks on the king could be done by having control over the centre.Need for Control of the centre has been advocated from steinitz, nimzovitch and modern GMs. so never let your opponent control the centre and smash you with his blows.
3.
Have a plan.
most of the begineers make the mistake of hunting for the moves and tactics all over the board without having a definite plan.Remember,1st make a plan and then decide your moves!A plan could be anything,a short plan for eg. you may want to put your piece on an important square for a better position or any other reason or even a long term strategy. Having a plan makes you avoid blunders and gives you a clear idea about the position and its requirements.
4.
Avoid small small mistakes.
many players neglect small small mistakes. like damaging the pawn structure, exchanging your good, well placed pieces for the opponents' bad ones, giving away the centre etc.Commiting these small small mistakes might not affect much to you while playing against weak players but when you actually play someone who is superior then he will turn this small small advantages into a big one, leading to the material or positional loss or both for you.
5.
Avoid unnecessary exchanges.
I wont write much onto this topic but I'll just say one simple golden rule,"Exchange only when you have either positional or material advantage." Thats it.
