basic question about deformation of castle pawns

It is quit often I find this position on the graphic below and I always take with the pawn in front of the rook, but I notice someone comenting abut the rigth one is the other pawn. the one at the end of the board.

So I present the pices as it usually come, and remember there is lots of more pices on the board, but I am just showing the few relate to the question.

So in this diagram. the black pawn can be any other black pice, like a bishop or whaever. And I am going to take it. I always do it with the pawn in front of the rook to open the colum for rook.

Is it ok to take with the other pawn instead? what is better?

yeah it's ok

remember take towards the center unless you have a good reason not to

I guess thats taking with the rook pawn is a good idea ; you active it for further attack and most of the time on a kingside castling you'll end up attacking the f7 Pawn which is a weak point imo. The *hic* is that you might need a tempo to move your king if any bishop is attacking from the diagonal this pawn just opened, and it's usually a good idea to clear it from any further check!

the true answer is complex!

The rule of thumb is take back with the pawn towards the centre. cxb3 is justified in positions with opposite side castling. The doubled b pawns provide protection, but if the game ends in an endgame, the position is basically lost.

Summa summarum: play what works, on the basis of analysis.

Taking with the a (or h) pawn is the more principled reply.  It puts the lesser rook-pawn on a knight file and your bishop's pawn can influence central squares for the rest of the game.  And with the same thinking we see taking with the bishop pawn can open up the king by moving that pawn away from the center.

So taking with the pawn in front of the rook means you're accepting some weaknesses in exchange for rook activity... e.g. you're saying your rook is good enough to make up for it.  So as others have said that usually means some sort of attack.

I see, thanks for the replies. I am going to consider all this points and hopefully take better decitions than what I am playing now.
