If you need basic stuff I can write it down
Control center, keep your pawns in the 4 middle squares, this gives you more space
Develop your pieces, if your knight isn’t doing anything, make it do smth, if your rooks are stuck, open the files, the more squares a piece controls, the better
Know your pawns and bishops, if you have a white square bishop with a bunch of pawns on dark squares, that bishop might be a point more valuable since it can move around easily, if the pawns are in the same squares, then the bishop is slightly worse, though it’s better to keep the bishop pair
Castle behind your pawns, never let your king go out in the wild like a camping day unless it’s endgame
NEVER trade a good piece for a bad piece, if you have a knight that is making your opponents life worse, good for you, that thing is 4 or even 5 points depending on where it is and how useful it is, if you trade that monster for a bishop that’s stuck behind pawns? That’s messed up
Does anyone have any suggestions for online video tutorials that teach beginners basic strategies? Things like point count, development, controlling the center, etc.
