Beautiful New Analysis

Chess.com’s beautiful new analysis tool nearly knocked me out of my seat this afternoon.  Captivated, I couldn’t help leaning in close to the screen and admiring the gorgeous revamped interface. From the very first moves, the visualization is perfect. Beginning with the white “book move” icon directly on the board, and continuing with colored annotations that force me to contemplate each move, I found the analysis inviting and appealing to explore.

The comments now spring to life and are impactful, I feel a satisfying confirmation when another green “best move” star pops up and a little twinge of surprised jubilation when the blue “brilliant !!” icon and comment appear next to my move.

It’s a real joy to interact with this tool! It’s just so smooth, clear and intuitive, and putting the familiar annotations (!? ?? etc.) in color and directly on the board really brings the analysis to life and challenges the player to learn and understand.

The “retry” feature makes learning feel easy, challenging me not only to look through and understand my blunders but to practice making the correct move, and really prove that I understand the position.

I’m going back through old games now, analyzing them and retrying key moves.  I can’t remember being this excited about a chess feature in many years. I absolutely love it and think it completely made my 2019 subscription worth it.  Thanks.
