The general advice is to get better with tactics. Chesstempo is a great free site for tactics puzzles.
If you want basic chess theory, try Simple Chess by Stean.
For end games, I suggest Siman's end game book.

I've started playing chess again for the first time since i was a kid,the only two openings my grandfather taught me were the caro kann and the london,
I've sort of struck an issue in my development as to what i should focus on.
I've added a couple of my recent games below,one as white and one as black.
