Beginner Question: Countering Aggressive Queen

I picked up chess for the first time a few weeks ago, and have had an especially hard time countering aggressive queens. I know early queen aggression is generally a bad idea, but it has been used effectively against me way too often.

In a current game, for example, white opened:

(1) e4 and I matched e5.

(2) white moved queen h5 and I countered with g6.

(3) white moved e5 - check, and I protected with my bishop. (4) white moved its queen to h8, taking my rook, where it currently sits.

What is my next move? I feel like I'm in a terrible spot, having already lost a pawn and a rook and seemingly without defense as the queen wrecks havoc on my first row. What did I do wrong? What can I do to salvage this game?

Apologies for the above notation - I know it's terrible! Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks Melvin. That makes a lot of sense, and I see where I left myself vulnerable.

Is there anything I can do in my current situation (reflected in the diagram above) to salvage this current game?
