Who, in your opinion, is considered to be the best all time chess player? I liked Kasparov. Maybe should have said favourite chess player.

Aspieboy; that might be because those are some of the best players in history!

Actually you missed out my favourite player, Jose Raul Capablanca.

The greatest natural talents appear to have been Morphy and Capablanca.

From the more studious players you could take your pick from Kasparov, Karpov, Alekhine, Botvinnik, Lasker, Fischer and others.

It all depends how you define "best". Was their success more attributable to innate ability or did they reach the pinnacle of the game more through dedication and hard work (combined with some natural aptitude of course)? Did their greatness seem to come naturally to them or was it something they had to work at and develop?
