Logical Chess (something I just picked up) is a pretty enjoyable read.

as a virtual beginner i have found "The right way to play chess" by D.B Pritchard to be clear, enlightening and well written.

I wonder if I wouldget into copyright trouble if I posted part of a book on chess.com. I see a lot of people have favourite books, and I think they wouldn't mind posting diagrams and/or text. If anyone knows about this lemme know.

Actually the Most helpful book to me when I 1st started to play was "The complete idiot's guide to chess"

 Copyright won't allow this.

I figured that constituted "duplication of any parts" as they mention in books.

I know this is strange - but the book that helped me start my way to improving my  chess is Sun Tzu's Art of War. Sometimes going off in a tangent helps bring us back on track very quickly. Either that or my brain's wired funny !!!Laughing

JuliusH, you mentioned Fischer's memorable games - it's out-of-print and next to impossible to find.

What does everyone think of Kotov's Think like a Grandmaster ? Silman refers to it in both of his books "Complete Book of Chess Strategy" and "How to Reassess Your Chess"

Modern Chess Tactics by Ludek Pachman, great book. My System by Nimzovitch is the book said to have created more masters than any other. Capablanca's 100 Best Games edited by Golombek has always been a favorite of mine.

@Ziryab----hey, fossil...did you see my amended post (#28) in your forum topic "thoughts on blitz"??!! You may have locked the "door" there, but you forgot about the "window" being open...anyway, in my amended post I answered the question therein that your cowardly carcass prevented me from doing directly by blocking me...I also gave the reasons for my vitriol toward you...that's all I have to say; go back to being yourself. (illogically smug, pretentious, ever critical, never helpful)...I don't care about any reply here in this forum; only dropped in to direct you to my amended post #28 is all...

100 endgames you must know and How to reassess your chess are great books.
