Forget about the openings. Learn how to think during the game and openings are going to be piece of cake. I can teach you EXACTLY how to think during the game (opening, middlegame and endgame). Your chess understanding will never be the same and you will improve a lot. I charge €20/h, but if you can’t afford too many lessons, don’t worry. I can teach you a lot in an hour. Here to help if you are interested.

If you want to study by yourself, read ‘Logical Chess’. It is really instructive book. You have it on youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eTB7oHeRgM&list=PLUrgfsyInqNa1S4i8DsGJwzx1Uhn2AqlT

a4? This is probably the worst answer ever to this question, and the bar is high.

There is no best opening, long story short. However, I seriously recommend the Scotch, the French, and the Nimzo-Indian.

Learn principles if you’re a beginner, you really only have to start learning openings until you’re an advanced beginner or early intermediate. But one thing I will tell you; STOP PLAYING THE ENGLUND GAMBIT, ITS A TERRIBLE OPENING AND I DONT KNOW WHY BEGINNERS LOVE IT SO MUCH.

white= definitely the scotch or italian(if ur into d4, then the london or queen's gambit)
black= the french and scandinavian and caro-kann or even e5(I still play that.) and for d4, just opt for d5 if you're not much into theory or Nf6(the indian game) if you're interested

I wouldn't recommend the sicilian for beginners because I have experience with that and it's not good. especially when u want to defend the freaking c-pawn.
