Best Chess PGN Database Program

Hello, I'm not sure if my title is accurate but what I'm looking for is some sort of program in which I could create a database of games I've played. What I want to do is play the game out and add annotations/variations (sort of like the chess.com insert diagram on the forums) and then be able to go back to it and review it easily. I have ChessPad2 at the moment but it seems quite confusing and hard to use (maybe it takes some time). But if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I don't mind spending some money. The ideal program is something simple in which I can maybe also organize the database with opening and date played.

I would give SCID a go. It's free and it's very good in my opinion. Once you get used to all of the functions it's a very powerful piece of software.

I use chessbase for all of my PGNs, it's compact and mostly intuitive - never had to open the manual. Aside from a few technical glitches it's a good bet if you willing to pay
