I have a program called Chess King, it uses Houdini and seems tobe pretty good for analysis.

There is another current thread titled "Best chess engine/sofware" by a Spanish IM looking for serious software to help him as he jumps back onto the tournament circuit that has a lot of good posts (and yes that is the title-I know software isn't spelled that way).  He went with Aquarium/Rybka 4 for it's deep analysis features.  Fritz 13/Houdini 3 pro because of its Chessbase cloud and Let's Check features was also recommended.  There is also an older thread comparing Fritz 13 and Aquarium that is worth doing a "search forums" for.  Many seem to rcommend a free solution with Scid vs. PC as the GUI and Stockfish as the engine.

I'm with DrFrank.  I like Chess King, but it's probably not world class since you can't use any engine other than Houdini 2 which comes with it.  The best GUIs let you change engines with a few mouseclicks and compare results.

I don't understand why everyone is so concerned as to which is the best engine. They all play on gm level which is a lot stronger than I am.

I'm with you DrFrank, but people buy the latest and greatest engine for the same reason most of us have a stack of unread chess books.  Getting better is a whole lot of work, maybe I can find a shortcut if I just throw a little money at the problem.

Titled players doing prep for their opponents is a different story of course.
