Today I played a game against my dad and it ended in a rook and pawn end game and things were actually looking dire as I made a mistake that made my position a little unsettling Understanding of my position I tried to play for a draw (which wasn't very likely unless my dad made a mistake) My dad gets his passed pawn into a queen and maybe it was some excitement of about to win or something else I don't know. but with my king on g8 a pawn on h7 his passed pawn on the g file queens checks me into h8 and then he moved his queen to forward to g4 or so and stalemates the games. I recently started playing ( but with covid and something short of obsession I've gotten pretty decent at chess. as well as with help from tactics and Silman's The Amateur's mind) I rarely hang a piece in slower games though I'm not the best at picking the best move all the time. I didn't play as a kid with my father but knew when I was young he played chess with his friends so learning chess has been a way for me to connect with him more and the moment we had over the board today was nothing short of hilarious after him proclaiming he was going to win just to draw the game himself.

I was playing someone in a real life chess tournament (rated) and my opponent got SO mad when I checkmated him (dirty checkmate) that he raged and chucked the chess board on the floor and ran out in tears. The arbiter gave me the win happy.png
