the entire final fantasy 6 soundtrack by nobuo uematsu is 3 hours of pure magic for chess, but if you're playing puzzle battle then just a 'wild west' (veldt music) loop should do the trick. 🙂

I blast out all types of music during play as I want to be able to play without thinking

I just listen to whatever I normally would listen to, so normally Alternative/Pop Rock or something similar. I can understand how songs with lyrics are distracting to some people, but they don't distract me.

Music that has exciting parts because then it feels good when you play a really good move or start winnings
In my opinion, music with lyrics is just distracting. It kinda makes you wanna sing along, tap the beat, and stuff like that--especially when the song is good. So, like I said earlier, I prefer to listen to classical/piano music.
Try Jeff Beck. Rock music, but no lyrics.
