There is 'Art of defense in chess' by Soltis, that's a good one.
Best resource (book or DVD) on defensive technique?

"Kotov's contributions [to The Art of the Middlegame] are workmanlike but nothing special. Keres's chapters are brilliant, especially 'How to Defend Difficult Positions'. If you never read anything else on the middlegame, read these 45 pages." - GM John Nunn (2006)

I would recommend you to read about this book and also the other books in the series. Also about the concept. This book is meant for defense. I have only done Visualise 1 (in 3 days) and working on Visualise 3 now. Visualise 1 in the most fun I've ever read/done.
I have bought Visualise 2 also, but chose to take 3 first, since 2 is harder.

It really comes down to calculation. It helps to know the technique, but unlike playing attacking chess there is not an abundance of resources on defensive technique.
