Best Software for analysis

I have chessmaster grandmaster edition and Fritz 10 currently. I was considering buying some new software that focuses on analysis eg. Deep fritz 12, Deep rybka 4. I was hoping for some good information, experiences and thoughts on the software available and the qualitys of them.

You could try the free GUI Arena and load Rybka 2.2. Zero cost, and the analysis quality is sufficient.

Cool thanks for the suggestion I will check it out.

I Have tried the arena GUI and view it as a great work in progress. I think I will be better suited to a more first class program however. There is a great lack of convieniance to arena. Upon more thorough exploration of the program I may find it to be of greater value, however as of now comparing it to fritz 10 It would not seem to be an upgrade.

Firebird, Stockfish and Houdini are all free and all work with Fritz 12, so I'd guess they will work with F10.

What you have is more than adequate and you can also have the PC here analyze games you've played here and compare the analysis to F10 and other engines. If you've really got some cash burning a hole in your pocket buy a few chess books instead of some super-duper program that isn't going to do anything for you that your current programs won't. I had F10 but had to buy F12 like a good brainwashed consumer and now I wonder why, F10 was more than adequate for me. Wait until you become a Master before worrying about the difference between engines rated at super-GM level!

Sounds like good advice. The more I research the closer I come to your conclusion NimzoRoy. Thanks for your input.

NimzoRoy is correct. Any UCI engine will work with Fritz 10. I've run many of them in Fritz 8, Fritz 9, and Fritz 12. There are no substantial changes between 8 and 12, so 10 will work the same way. Stockfish, Houdini, and Rybka 2.2 are all free.

Arena is a nice program, but you can do everything in Fritz that it can do except install and run Winboard engines. These days most engines are UCI, and Winboard has less practical value.

I am back after a long break from chess, It has dawned on me that a good database would be invaluable to allow me to study GM games of situations pertaining to my current lines of study etc. Fritz 10 still works for WIN 10 so that will probably be my next purchase is a pretty large database.
