Here are a few beginner-friendly books:

  • Everyone’s Second Chess Book by Dan Heisman,

  • Logical Chess: Move by Move by Irving Chernev (contains annotated games; every move is annotated),

  • Back to Basics: Tactics by Dan Heisman.
