And I'M out of MY league??  I'm just trying to defend this site and America. Where's Rooperi and his gang?  I just woke up. I NEED some more insults!  BTW;  no offense taken

R u sure you mean Rooperi and his gang, rather than somebody else's gang?

hahahhahaaa Glorax;  not yet. I'll let you know if I need back up.  @ Macer;  here's what I think the gang consist of;  Rooperi; Al Cervik, Trysts, Big Poison, maybe a couple of others. I can't think, I just woke up. Now I'm trying my best to be a good boy. The above mentioned are all in Rooperi's thread about Democracy. Yesterday, I defended a little old lady in Russia because pelly thought she was a trool. She was nice to me in a private thank you note, and I want Kohai to know what I did. OHh!, now I know what you mean Macer. NO!, I'm not up for going 9 rounds right now with anybody.          Out of my league--INDEED!Cool

Thanks buddy.  You'd think dashkee would help me now and then??     On 2nd thought??  Look at post 184-185 of the thread, "Hard Work Alone Can Never Make You A Master".  I was only defending gg.

Avatar of Tinku_Basumatary

This is completely wrong. You mean hard work don't get paid off against natural talent. Buddy it gets paid and hard work is the key to success.

When it comes to chess hard work means nothing. Talent is everything.  Certain neurons fire away in the brains of some peiople and are dead little barnacles in the minds of others.  This is nature's way.

The Catholic Church tried that argument 400 yrs ago. It didn't work then, and it won't work now.--post 27

Well, I guess David must be as good as God. (No offense here, if this turns out to be a sensitive comment).

If God gets cocky with the Latvian (why?  why on Earth when the Schliemann Ruy Lopez is acceptable?) then Stockfish could win Cool

if u dont like what i write dont read it cote and musacha.  I know my stuff is top notch, far above anything you can ever hope to muster. i know you are jealous as well.  I know you try to tear down a good thing as well.  Well, none of that is of any consequence to me.  Superiority always breeds jealousy and hatred.

I don't know, HolyFlame...

I used to play the same friends from school for years, and they were always always always better than me...

but you'll be amazed, what a little bit of study and understanding can do to your game - especially at the 1000 level.

1000 is very easily improvable to 1400 and 1500 - which are levels which will impress David rather, I promise you.

Hang on to your pieces! Don't let him get anything for free - not even a pawn.

Snap on any piece or pawn he gives you - unless you see a real and immediate reason why not to. Don't believe in shadows - believe in pawns and pieces.

Don't be afraid to trade - even the queens - if this gains you even one little pawn. You will be amazed, in how many cases this little pawn will be a game winner, all by itself.

How many times the presence of just one tiny pawn of advantage will suddenly stress David out, and make him look for desperate moves and attacks - which will only allow you to further increase your advantage, until he'll have to admit defeat!!

Yeah man - learning does it :-)

I totally agree with solskytz here, studying matters. or at least reading a few books at the early stages. The Amateurs' mind, by jeremy silman( or anything by him, really) as well as a couple game analysis books of the games of your favorite chess masters can do wonders.

I will say that talent matters- a little bit. certain people are just more mentally compatible with chess due to their nature, personality, ect, but I also believe it's a bit of a  a cop-out on your part.

There is no reason the average person can't reach the 1400-1700 range. read a few books, analyze your games(if you don't know how- look it up)

Work on your basic opening concepts(king safety, development, pawn structure, ect.) know basic tactics and how to spot them at least 1 turn before hand, probably two. Know and memorize mating patterns and endgame basics, like rooks on the 7th, rooks behind passed pawns,  king activity, ect.

there's tons of resources online and there is no reason you cannot get up your partners' level in a few months unless he is like 2200 or higher.

just my two cents, take it or leave it

Now do you see what the last 2 poster are saying??  Study more chess, and write less threads.
