Alrighty, at first glance without looking anything up...

1: I don't know. Though I"m guessing Steinitz, Lasker Tarrasch, Gligoric perhaps? Nah.. he was probably too young.. i'm really not sure.

2. I know it's French, something like Federacion Internacionale de echecs?

3. I believe it was Garry the Kaptive... er... Kasparov, 2850 or thereabouts.

4. I've heard this quote.. but I don't know. Pol Pot? jk

5. I'm guessing Keene. Perhaps Nunn?

6. 1 minute methinks.

7. Aruna Anand. The Lovely wife of the very lucky (and slightly talented...) Viswanathan Anand.

8. Arbiter?

9-12 I have no idea.

13. Steinitz is usually the first recognized World Champion, though players before him such as Anderssen and Morphy seemed to demonstrate their superiority over their contemporaries.

14. Under Promotion is when a pawn reaches the 8th rank, it generally promotes to a queen. An under promotion is when the player promotes it to a Knight, Bishop or Rook.

15. !? is generally intended to show a move that is interesting, often times needing further evaluation. Perhaps strong, but not clearly so.

16. Kibitzer is someone commenting on a game? Or maybe it's just someone watching a game. I've never known exactly.

17 - 18  dunno

19. Anderssen.

20. vaguely familiar, but not sure.
