Note that this position instead is a win for white.
Bishops are not better than Knights

If bishops weren't better than knights, everybody would trade them early, doubling their opponents pawns too.

A well played pair of knights is a PITA (like a well played pair of bishops), but harder to see the combos and account for in the rush of blitz. But I prefer a pair of bishops.
I've been enjoying dealing with paired up knights lately by just increasing the attacks on the one and getting both.

bishops are longer range pieces and at the end they are a little better but at the start they are a little worse so its kind of like an investment

Uhm.. wait...
Seriously though; two favourite quotes on this subject:
"The Bishop is stronger, but the Knight is more cunning."
and my personal favourite:
"Bishop takes Knight. This is how GMs beat IMs."
I think you may have posted on this before and I asked you to elaborate on whose piece was taking whose... I find depending on the position, it can work in your favor either way...

I don't really care for which I get in general I would try and avoid trade a bishop for knight though if it happens I have no problem. I don't mind at all the only thing that changes that view is how the games going

obviously i prefer bishops in an open position, but i would gladly take a knight and bishop for a bishop, or if i can get a two knights and two pawns for two bishops, i will take it....

I personally find my knights more fun and playable. For me I have a tough time watching the whole board and tend to overlook enemy bishops and I do the same with my own bishops. Knights all day and err, night for me eh.

LOL
Didn't anybody tell you you can never trust general statements??

It all depends on the situation: Here is a great example from my game. I'm black.
As you can see, in the main line the knights dominated, whereas in the sideline the bishops did.

Get a knight to a good outpost and it's usually curtains. If you can get a checkmate with a knight it's usually curtains also. But they are just so unpredictable no one can handle them.
Actually a discovery was recently made of a remnant group of Soviet era GMs. This group of 12 grandmasters had survived for 30 years isolated from the world in a bunker 20 floors below sea level. They returned to the surface because their food stores finally ran out. They reported that their monomaniacal quest to solve chess had born fruit! They were close many times, however only 1 man solved chess. Unfortunately he paid a heavy price, his sanity.
Although the madness had stripped the man of his ability to communicate he demonstrated his prowess by easily defeating houdini in a match where he gave the engine pawn odds. The others report that on the day chess was solved, and just before the madness had taken him over, his last words were: "I KNOW HOW THE KNIGHT MOVES!" after which he immediately collapsed.
So yes, to you and I the knight is completely unpredictable. But to that poor insane genius... and perhaps God if God exists... the knight's movements are understood entirely.

Oh $%^& my bad. It actually moves in an "L" shape. I must have gotten the story confused with something else.

Ok, you have skills I give you that. But can you tell me how many squares can the knight reach after 2 moves from the starting position, can you imagine it in your mind?

I thought neither of us were being serious.

I didn't think anyone on this thread was serious other than the few obvious posts (open v. closed positions - some more fun in lower rated Blitz) - However, I did very much like the "if you get checkmate..." line. Perhaps I should start a thread "A pawn is better than a Bishop". I've gotten checkmate with a pawn on occasion! Do you think there will be much friendly argument about that?
You may get 1,000 replies, who knows ...
or . I'm not sure which.

but if your opponents checkmates you first, that can be bad. Sometimes.
It seems like a draw with a common stalemate
