same bro, my blitz is just tanked :cry
Blitz tips?
I'm 1600- 1700 blitz and i'm finding it really difficult. Any tips to get better at blitz so I can improve my blitz rating? Rn the openings I play in blitz are basically the same ones I play in rapid, should I have different opening repertoires for different time controls?
Ez, just win games.

Easy for you to say 😭
never resign in a losing position and don’t play hope chess
First tip, YES! Second tip, mehhh. I play hope chess in classical and in my last tourney i went 2/3 only losing to a 2190 Fide

fine don’t play hope chess at the expense of your position, that better?

Honestly? 1600-1700 is already a really high rating and especially in blitz. The problem is likely some positional details you are unaware of and blitz makes it even less likely you’ll find in the game because the time pressure makes it tougher to calculate a lot; it means you need to have a greater positional foundation, so you can intuitively make the right moves.
If you were like 1000 blitz, then maybe you could continue to grind through and gain rating by building some speed (not necessarily the best strategy, but it could still work). Since 1600-1700 is way higher, you’ll need more positional understanding and this typically means gaining more knowledge and/or playing rapid chess.
Here’s one of many positional related videos on my channel: https://youtu.be/4h0piKAp7IU?si=xmseHY5Ps6Q5dV7g You’ll want to learn many concepts like this and get comfortable using them in games. Depending what your positional knowledge is now, you may also have to begin learning more advanced pawn structure concepts or concepts related to weak squares and holes.

Oh btw, I’d keep the same openings regardless of time control if your openings are mainline openings.
Get better at SLOW chess by stopping blitz for a while, not forever. Study and train by reading books, watching videos, playing stronger players and analyzing games, and THEN returning to blitz. But don't let blitz be the majority of your time in chess.

Yea dw I don't play blitz that much. I just wanna get my blitz to a respectable rating. Most of my time is spent on 10+0 and my OTB tournaments

Thanks for the advice! Yea positional chess is probably my worse attribute. I've been trying to get better at it by reading "My System" and "How to Reassess Your Chess" . Thanks for the video, I'll watch it when I get the chance!
