Correspondence chess is a representation of the best game of chess you can play. My USCF is in the 1950s, and I suck at blitz. I know I am a new member, but my online games are much better representations of my skill than my blitz games. And for cheating - what's the point? To say that your engine can beat your opponent?
blitz/bullet rating is the only thing that matters in internet chess

I would argue the only thing that matters in online chess is having fun. My blitz and bullet ratings are terrible and accurately reflect my instinctive ability to play the game, which is why I play standard and correspondence chess. Not to take two weeks to play the game, but to have a few minutes to breathe and think on the correct moves. Most correspondence games, i'd bet, don't involve more than a few hours of actual playtime spent studying the board. I know mine rarely do.

No one would play chess if it wasn't fun! Of course that is the point of blitz, but correspondence gives you time to appreciate the game, too. That's why it matters, even if the rating doesn't

so what you are saying is that since its posible to cheat in correspodence chess the rating does not matter? That would be like saying that since it is posible to forge reaserch papers science does not excist ;O
I can have a 10 / 10 game running with a engine running at the same time does that mean those games dont count either?
In fact I know enoght about computers to make a program that feed your moves into hodini and execute the moves for me. Even in blitz after starting the match I could go for a nap and still win.
Point being if I want to cheat I will, blitz or no blitz

I suck at Blitz too. Internet chess ratings don't mean a damn thing, since nobody takes it seriously at all.
this guy above me is right, people can easily program computers for bullet.
Still I agree with kasprov jr. I never trust those people with high CC and Standard with really low blitz and bullet

It doesn't take much to ruin your speed variant ratings early, swear off the game modes completely and focus on the ones you find yourself able to succeed in. People cheat, then you just got beat by a computer, and that puts you in pretty lofty company, with the likes of Kasparov. At least your incredibly high USCF and FIDE ratings can't be easily cheated by these faceless Internet monsters.
And yeah I bet your blitz or bullet percentile on here is more accurate for where you would stack up OTB if everyone played chess OTB. And yeah I know some people suck at blitz but I've never seen a good player that isn't at least decent at blitz

and just on a sidenote, since opponents are chosen by ranking if you lose a match or two to a cheater you would play the next game(s) against weaker opponents and your rating should bounce right back up.

I dunno, I mean I'm hardly great OTB but I suspect my ability to play OTB is much closer to my ~1100 rating in standard than my sub-700 in blitz.

I for one don't have the patience for correspondence chess and it is reflected in my rating. My ratings are mostly equal across-the-board. In my opinion and this is only my opinion, people who have a Blitz rating of 1200 and a correspondence rating of 2000 are most likely cheating on the correspondence. A rating should not very that much. There are so many ways to cheat (have a friend who's higher-rated play for you, ask a higher-rated friend to help you on the moves, chess engines, etc.) and so many different reasons why to do it. (Bragging rights, trying to feel important, wanting to be noticed, etc. etc.)
As far as how important Internet rating is compared to regular rating I think that's all depends on the person. I don't have very many if any tournaments for adults being played in my area, so the Internet is pretty much all I got. I have to agree with Kasporov_Jr mostly on this one...

If you are under a certain skill then blitz is a crap shoot and bullet is just a hardware contest.

Total bull####. If someone is cheating in correspondence chess, their rating would be much higher than 2000, at least in the 2500 region.
You don't understand human nature all that well.
someone could easily only cheat a few moves. or only when they "deserve" the win or whatever.

This is exactly my point. Without even 30 seconds to a minute to think, at a low level you may as well be playing blind at faster time controls.
I'm tired of people bragging about having '' high '' correspondence chess ratings, yet see thier blitz rating be a measily 1200. Having a 1800+ bullet/blitz rating is more respectable than being a 2000 in Correspondence chess
I'm rating 1850 uscf rating in chess, and my bullet/blitz rating accurately describes it. Correspondence chess is extremely unrealistically long, what tournament in the world will you have more than 2 weeks for a game? If your good at chess, the moves will come to you quick, you dont need 24 hours to analyze.
and it's so easy to cheat in correspodence chess every once in a while, you can look at a chess engince for a couple of moves & it will go unnoticed. But you dont have time to fool around with blitz/bullet.
