On this site....blitz in upto10 min.. a draw can be agreed by the two players .......it could be stalemate....or it could be that no player has enough pieces to force checkmate....otherwise..it is also possible if a player's timer runs out but the opponent doesn't have enough pieces to mate....even if the opponent has a pawn...he wins...but not if he has a bishop or knight
Blitz/Time in games/draws
If there is no checkmate, and you have a draw, does 1 player win on points? You said the players 'timer runs out', how does that work?
No, a draw mean neither player wins, and neither loses.
Games here and in rated OTB tourneys use clocks. Each player has a certain amount of time to make all of their moves. If they run out of time, and checkmate or stalemate isn't on the board, then they will lose unless it isn't possible for their opponent to checkmate (insufficient material, for example).
Hope I'm not over posting, but what is the deal with games that are timed. Is a blitz game like under 5 min or something? What about regular games, it there a time limit on them? How it the timer used after making a move.
Also, at what point do you know the game is a draw? I had a draw on the computer game, but I wondered why, so I played it out and could see it would go nowhere. But otherwise in a real game, how would you know?
