Sjugirov didn't have such a great olympiad, so it doesn't look he is an excellent form. So it is quite an upset for Carlsen, who was almost undefeated in the ellite tournaments in the past year.

It looks that what Reb said it's confirmed by the results: Carslen and Toplaov lost again. Carslen "managed" to lose in 25 moves against someone rated 2620, in 25 moves after blundering a knight!
Altough there might be some thruth in what Reb is saying I'm not convinced that Topalov's and Carlsen's results prove anything. It's clear that for some reason they both played well below their normal level. Some members of the so called elite also performed well above the predictions of their ratings (Ivanchuk, Aronian) and many others performed about as expected.
