Bobby Fischer's view on chess.

I came across comments about Fischer's views on chess today while studying his games. When I came across videos of him and articles about him, they talk about how fischer viewed modern chess. From what I get, he basically says chess is losing all creativity and fire. And it's all pre-arranged and memorized. I can see why he likes great chessmasters such as Paul Morphy and Capablanca. They are the true example of natural ability and craftiness. What do you guys think?

yeah that's why he invented Fischer Random chess.  I think that is a good point from Fischer but I still think there is a lot of creativity still and players like Carlsen show that opening theory isn't everything in chess.  I do hope though that chess variants such as Fischer Random or Seirawan chess become more popular; I think those games would be good for more creative games and new ideas.  I would be more interested in Seirawan chess because the piece formation in standardized so you don't have to worry about analyzing the position wrong from the opening.  The possible caveat is that Seirawan openings could be analyzed too, but I think the danger is not as great because Seirawan chess is more complex.

Fischers' sentiment is understandable to a point. Advanced modern chess theory has made for more balanced games at the top level of play. Probably more draws are seen from these players as a result. Yet, even so, we still see amazingly strong, brilliant, seemingly magical games from time to time.

Here's hoping the upcoming Championship Match produces a few games in this category.

Don't be deceived by his abyssmal rating on this site. He's over 2600 FIDE, and all because he invested hundreds of hours watching the videos of the Backyard "Professor".
