I was asked to post my thoughts so I did.

nice game, boys. I see one theme rings true: It's not about winning or losing, it's about getting your king to the other side (first or not, lol)

bjazz

The game bjazz-duskrevival has ended 1-0 after a battle where white employed successfully the hypermodern idea of controlling the center with pieces rather than the king, (sounds absurd, I know) against the classical strategies employed by black.

Here's the game with light annotations:

excellent drive to the 8th rank!

@Bjazz Great game! Here is my version of the analysis, don't forget to checkout the last moves where I actually had a chance Wink But that was a nice sacrifice.

Hey dueds, I just wantd to ask yall soemthin. I understood that a bongcloud opening is stictly the king moving on the 2nd move. But I've noticed people posting chess-boards showing openings involving the king moving later than move 2. Is that legal for our tourney? I've been moving....correction.....DEVELOPING my King on the second move ALWAYS! So what's the verdict? Where's our playbook? AnthonyCG showed how we might be "swindled" by black, but then white takes the pawn instead of developing the King! Are we playing that way now? Have we gotten away from basics??? *cough*

MAybe you're right, I got "illuminated" and attempted a "Hypermodern Bongcloud", (which might be the cause why I lost, who knows).

NEXT ROUND

White players: challenges must be issued by 8/20/11

I think hypermodern bong openings should be allowed. They have been shown to be effective. The goal is to get the king to the otherside, so the King is going to have to go out on a walk eventually.

 Amen to that

Man, why can't the members of Bongcloud Society get a chance to each name an opening, or have an opening named after them, just for the honor of it? I don't think it' fair for 1 or 2 people to get to name them all.

There's lotta good names I see there, but there's also a punt-load of lame names. I can think of so many better names (and more suitable, given we are the "Bongcloud Society").... like "The Dirty Pipe-cleaner" (something involving a lot of sacrificing), "The Blocked Bowl" (for an opening that causes a congested cluster-f@#% in the middle), "Holding The Choke" (As in the choke on a bong, and maybe good for an opening involving defending an opening for the King?), "The Red-Eyed Wanderer" (or even "The Red-Eyed Jedi"....maybe for something more standard since it paralells the whole theme of our game), "Hash Stash Dash" (for an opening where our King manages to gain a lot of ground early), "The Zig-Zag Kutcorners" (rolling papers for any wannabees that don't know, but this name is obviously great for some opening that involves our King zig-zagging his way through, or even involving a corner of the board), "Hide The Roach" (dunno, maybe for when the King is blocked off by his own pieces?), "Canoeing" (Like when a joint is burning up only one side of a J, but this is a canadian term, not sure what Americans call this phenomenon, lol. Good for an opening where the King is making headway up one side of the board?)....etc...list goes on...

The only way we can get the King out on the 2nd turn is if we first move one of the 3 pawn in front of our King. But then this limits our Playbook to a much smaller repertoire than if our criteria was having to move our King on the 3rd turn (latest). But I'm not really hung up on it. I'm ok with sticking to tradition. But as we get later into the openings, we can also name that layout as it stands... so there's probably plenty of naming that can be done. But the very basic openings, the ones involving the first 2-4 moves, should have the bast names - and then maybe only the variations of any one of these could be named after members....TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME!!!!! (insert echo here).

To sumarize, (this is starting to feel like an essay):

[1] I think we should improve the names of the basic openings.

[2] I think each member should be able to pick a variation of one of these openings to name after themselves (or maybe have to earn that privilage by winning a Bongcloud-tournament using that particular variation?? Just a suggetion...) This would also build a lot of "esprit de corps"...."team morale"....whatever you want to call it...

[3] And last but not least....ummm....errrr....I guess there was no third point.....*COUGH*.......*WHEEEEEZE*.......*HACK*......*ahem!*...

Conquistador!... I need a referee! (for the bongcloud tournament we have going on). i won my first match, and now I'm up against Jerry2468. I believe my opponent has used an illegal opening, I'm playing black, and this is where we are at right now: [1. e4 f6 2. d4! Kf2 3. f3.... the Fried Fox opening], so as you can see, after I move, we'll be in turn 4, and I have a feeling he'll still keep his king "undeveloped", lol.

He probably thinks that he only has to get his king to the otherside, he probably doesn't realize he has to do it "Bongcloud style". If the game was simply to get your king to the otherside, i would not use any of the bongcloud openings, and instead try to gain control of the board first. I offered him a rematch (instead of being lame and calling it in as a "disqualification"), but I can't get a hold of him (either that, or he's ignoring me). Over the last 3 days, I've left comments in the chatbox, I've messeged him, I even offered a draw (so that he would be notified and go see me comments.... not that I actually want a draw). I decided not to wait till the last second, I have 29 hrs left, but I'm still waiting for a response.

Would you be able to contact him, he'll probably listen to you. Just let Jerry2468 know that I'd like to rematch, and that he must use something from the playbook. Thanks boss!
