Boring games

When I think of chess  I think of a scheming mastermind who works behind the scenes and slowly but surely crushes his enemies, not some bored idiot who can't play a crucial part of the game and whines when he loses.  Learn how to beat this through a combination of positional understanding and tactics.  If you don't want to learn it then why are you even here?  Go play checkers.

win or lose is not the issue, I think your answers is a bit shallow...

If you really want an exciting game try all kinds of gambits or simply play some unusual moves for example 1.b4.

Also you can chose to get out of the opening book. I remember some games in which nakamura played  1.e4 e5  2.Qh5  . The game won't be boring any more.

Usually if you break the center the game will be very unballanced ( even if you sac a pawn).

I know, and it's probably the best practical solution, in my last tournament, the national ch. I did mostly play gambits, Smith Morra vs c5, Max lange type of attack against e5, with black I chosed the Latvian and Albin.

All the games was exiting and fun :)

I did the same in the national blitz tournament, my score in the qualify was 9 out of 11 :) no boring games there either!

I know what you mean. I think I have a reason. Just started playing myself.  Was winning against people with sacrifices all over the place, fun lots chances made, missed etc.  Then played vs computer and got smashed and destroyed and demolished because all my hero moves just got swallowed up. I started following the computers lead and tried best moves all the time. Thing is, I was winning more, my ranking improved but the playing was boring. All positional, whenever I could swap a piece for the same one or same points just swapped out. Ended up with no mid game wins and everything always came to end games that involved marching pawns. Then win draw and lose, but lost a lot less. No fun though.  My ranking is down now but I’m trying to learn how to play well but with the zest I need for the adrenaline to keep flowing. I respect all those that can do the positional thing and stay focused, but my mind wanders and the fun vanishes for me. Perhaps this will forever be my chess handicap but I prefer to love the game.
