Bughouse

There's this game called Bughouse, and it's a chess variant played with two chess boards, and 2 teams of 2 chess players, each playing a game. And from there it's just like regular chess except:

1.) If one player captures a peice on a board, it is taken out and is given to the other person's teamate.

2.) That teamate then has the option of sacrificing a turn on the board to put his partner's caputered peace anywhere he chooses on the board.

3.) If one player defeats the other player, the winner's team is automatically declared the winner and visa versa.

I played this interesting game at my school's chess club. It was really a dynamic game. My question is this, would you like to play it?

But it needs four players--sounds good to try.  In standard chess, the idea is that the opponent units are "captured" and are removed (no longer useful).  The idea in Bughouse is that the "captured" enemy units are "reoriented" or "turned around" (or brainwashed in military metaphor) and now play for you.  Another nice variant is Atomic chess, good to try...

Bughouse is imho better than blitz chess, it's more dynamic and in fact requires more thinking as you can give a mate in no time. Anyone knows any sites where you can actually play bughouse ? (possibly with ranking)

I've seen bughouse played with teams of 4 and 5 per side.  It's hilarious.

what happened to 2 player bughouse on chess.com?

I tried it a few times when there were enough people to play it but to me it is not fun. It’s pointless and boring.

The people who say that bughouse is “better” because it requires more thinking are wrong. It is not as if regular chess doesn’t require thinking. There is no limit to how much you need to think.
