Calculation and Logic

In chess terminology, what do “calculation” and “logic” mean? I’ve seen the two used as if they are opposites of each other, but I don’t understand what the difference is.

Calculation is he goes there, I go there, he goes there, I go there type of thinking. In other words one move at a time.

But sometimes a position doesn't have much to calculate. For example there might not be any captures, checks, or even threats you can make. In such positions calculation isn't very useful, and players select moves based on logical ideas like increasing the mobility of their pieces.

I see now. So are chess engines capable of logical moves in situations with no captures, checks, or threats?

Yes, but they calculate millions of positions in order to mimic the logic.

Sometimes their mimicking attempt fails though, and they'll play a nonsense move.
