Still in very nice shape. David is a stand-up guy and makes quality products.

Certainly does Mike.  Thanks.

I bought the ChessMate Ultima set, and I’m pleased with it.  It’s a passport sized, magnetic disk travel set, that’s just the right size to carry around for studying or playing games almost anywhere.

The quality and craftsmanship look very good, and I believe the value of this set will far exceed the cost.

Are they available in Europe? I know I can order them from the US but the $35 shipping is too much for me :/

I don't know of any chess vendor in Europe that buys them in bulk and carries them in stock. They are made in the USA by David Weinstock. You can ask him about shipping by contacting him directly. But shipping from the USA to anywhere is expensive. Here is the link to his web site:

Also, I see that HOS carries and has $19.95 for shipping to the World.  They always have a minimum of 10% off and more at other times. Here is the link:

I do not receive any remuneration or have any stake in either company. I just saw the post and thought I would try to help. I have this set and it is very nice. No regrets in buying it.

In reference to Chessmate products, I have purchased both the pocket sets and David Weinstock’s Thinket products.  Excellent quality materials and attention to detail on the Chess sets and the fidget widgets!

If you need a pocket chess set, search no further.  I have had many pocket chess sets over the years and none of them even come close to the quality.

A question: The slim-pocket version of the Chessmate now comes in black.  Does anyone have the earlier brown imitation crocodile colored version that they are willing to sell or trade?

I bought the ChessMate Ultima set. Overall its very nice, I found a decent deal and I like it. The one big drawback is the area for captured pieces is not very magnetic, so pieces slip off here easily while traveling. I like to set up chess puzzles and take it with me, so this is an issue.
I mention it, becasue an easy fix would be just to make that bottom part the same material as the board, instead of covering that magnetic part in a different material. The board works well and if you did this for captured pieces it would work geat, can be designed in same theme as the board (or all black is good too), and it would be even thinner allowing it to close easily.
