Can anyone become a GM?

I think a lot of people can become a Master if they are dedicated and work at it, Maybe even reach 2400 USCF but Getting to Grandmaster seems out of reach for most including myself.

For the most part, any person of average or better innate abilities, if they are willing to dedicate their entire lives to the single-minded pursuit of almost any goal, can achieve that goal.

In practice, most people are not willing or able to muster up that kind of monomaniacal effort.  And those who are able tend to become dreadful bores at parties.
