Can anyone give me any information on what it takes to beat Chess Titans?

I've played it over 150 times, and I have 149 losses and one draw.

Does Chess Titans even have any tendencies you can tell me about?

DrSpudnik

It's really a terrible program. Just don't commit to an attack, and don't let any pieces drop. It will make a positional error and you can kill it.

You need Greek gods to deal with titans. Ask Zeus for help

In settings, change it to a lower level.  At level one it does some really stupid things only a stone beginner would do.  At level 4 I lose 75% of the time.

btw, I AM a Greek God!

I had the opposite experience... when I play for an attack on the king, it doesn't realize it's dangerous until it's too late :)  In other words I won't see that a sacrifice is dangerous and will ignore your buildup until all of a sudden it realizes it's mate in 3 hehe :)

I don't always beat it on level 10 though... but I don't like to play it really because it takes forever to move (on my computer anyway).

I am glad you brought that subject up, I was meaning to see if others have tried playing the great windows chess Titan.  I have windows 7, and it claims it has 10 levels, I have it at level 8, I have lost 4 games, draw 1, won 17. My USCF is about 1600. Cannot get it to go to level 10. The point being that it is a very fun opponent and it comes free with your PC.

What I like about it, you can quit and save if you must stop, and pick up where you left off later. I have ChessMaster and all games must be finished and ChessMaster is much stronger then Titan. So for someone like myself I find to be a worthy opponent at my level good practice opponent.

To the OP, You do not give any idea what your chess playing skill may be, might try playing some live chess and On Line Chess. Do not get discourage, but you must  be careful against Titan for it plays very well the opening moves, I think that is where it gets you?  I was surprised when I first played it at level 8, did not think it would play that well.

My chess Titan moves very fast, faster then ChessMaster, maybe that is why is is not stronger?

Yes, play the easiest level first and then move up to the next one. I think chess titants are about 1500 rated :)

At levels 1 and 2 Chess Titans is making almost random moves.  It will sometimes take advantage of an opportunity to grab a hung piece, and other times ignore an obvious capture.  Similarly, it will often completely ignore an imminent capture of one of its own pieces, including its Queen, when the attack could easily be thwarted.

As quick little mental diversions I sometimes play rapid moves against the first couple of levels by making several nonsense moves at the beginning until I've got a problem, and then play my position properly.  Or sometimes I'll decide ahead of time what my first few moves are going to be regardless of the program's response, which usually leads to some positions which are then a little more challenging.  For instance, I might decide I'm going to advance both my g- and h-pawns as far as possible before making any other moves, and then recover from there.

The higher levels don't make silly mistakes, but they're rigid.  Each level seems to have only 2 or 3 openings that it goes to almost all the time.

Chess Titans can be a fun diversion, but for learning you're better off with other freebies.

The main issue w/ tech. is the lack of common sense.........and failure of decision making.....

DO a free download of Tarrasch GUI, you get a good version of Rybka free with it!

chessmaster102

people actually have trouble with that. I beat usually and I got mixed results with it on level 9 and 10 but other than that It's a real easy program to beat. You probably just need to get better in general.

How do you play without committing to an attack? I tried, and that didn't work. But if you have any more suggestings, I'm willing to listen.

Well, how am I going to get better? By just playing better players and losing all of the time? How about some terms I can learn: Can you write down and explain some chess terms for me? Would greatly appreciate it!

Lol Natalia

Anyway, there are several things you can do to improve your chess:

  • Learn opening principles, if you haven't yet
  • Study your own games to find out what you did wrong
  • Use a tactics trainer, such as the one here at chess.com or the one at chesstempo
  • Study games between masters
  • Play games

Hope that helps!

bolshevikhellraiser

If he can't beat chess titans not even the greek gods could help him. By the way that's not much of a goal.

After googling Chess Titans, disregard what I said before.

Instead just practice tactics, tactics, more tactics, much more tactics, and even more tactics than that.

EDIT: Forgot about playing games, Cystem is definitely correct. So, play against people stronger than you, study to find what went wrong, and do tactics. Smile

It might not seem like it, but this is actually one of the most productive things you can do.  The trick is to play people who are better than you, but not vastly so.

That's where knowing your rating can do you some good.  Once you've played enough games (maybe 15 to 20) where your rating will be starting to settle down to reflect your true ability, you'll get your best experience by playing people who are maybe 100 or 200 points above your rating.  Those people will be better than you, but stil close enough that you can understand what they're doing.  Losing to someone who has a rating a lot higher than yours doesn't help much-- you just get beat badly, but a lot of times can't really see what was going wrong.

You can lower your level of play and increase... I think the game also seems to have a frequent error of letting a fork with a pawn.

CMGuess

How could you not beat that weak system? I beat it when I was only around the 1000 range against it's strongest levels!
