A torture device?

Two players are on electric chair :

* everytime one loses a pawn, he takes a 10 V shock.

* everytime one loses a minor piece, he takes a 40 V shock.

* everytime one loses a rook, he takes a 100 V shock.

* everytime one loses a queen, he takes a 200 V shock.

* when one gets checkmated, he is killed.

But the torture 'device' would be the electric chair, and not chess itself.

No ... Since white has four unanswered moves, it would be simple:

1. e3

2. Bc4

3. Qf3

4. Qxf7+#

It's one turn per board(4 boards), Not 4 moves on one board, but. NICE try!  haha jk

Hey, Magnus Carlsen played 10 games at once... blindfolded. That seems impossible to me but that's because I'm not Magnus Carlsen. So maybe to someone that doesn't play chess 4 games at once may seem like torture. It actually sounds fun to me. I'm playing 20+ games at once on chess.com and that's my choice to do that and if my opponent is online I'm willing to play it out in a day. My point is everyone's mental level of thinking is different. Hence different people will be different on what they can tolerate. To go as far as to say "torture device" I think that's a bit far but some reason great chess players do go mad. So you do have to wonder... is chess really torturing your mind? I have already posted this but it goes well with this post, "Chess is mental torture." - Garry Kasparov

But(to clear this game up), let's put a 20 minute clock on the game.  So, either player starts on the green board to their left, as white.  They move once on that board, then going clockwise, they move once on the blue board(as white). 3rd, they skip the green board(as black). Then, lastly(4th board) skip the last blue board(as black).  Then, they stop their clock.  The other player does the same thing, and then back and forth. 4 games, 20 minute clock.

I've done this a few times, and I can tell you, I've played a lot of normal, single, chess games(without really 'racking' my brain).  But, playing 'this way' just about melts my brain, or exercises it.  I do believe(myself) that 'this sorta game' has some chess skill building possibilities, or it's just a pointless headache.  Because, I can assure you, if you are playing a player that is at about your level, you'll not be in "the mood for another" after finishing one of these 4 boards at once games.

Nekhemevich

is this taking place in a pub?

Of course chess can be used as a turture device. See this thread:

Is it hard to understand?(that's understandable haha)  Maybe I should do the rules with numbers beside them??

:D I've played 5 games at once one time. It was at a homeschool convention. I won one game and started another one. Lost the other games and started new ones. Sorry, I know this post is really old, just couldn't resist sharing an experience.

I still don't get how this is torture.

How does it start with 2 boards as white and 2 boards as black, two of the games are one ply ahead?

I mean, it's just a joke. But yea, playing chess like this will definitely melt your brain. haha

Yea, at the start, the first player has to wait for the 2nd player to move their white pieces first. On the first player's second move, he will officially be moving pieces on all 4 boards.
