Can chess.com be considered a 'social media' website?

Got into a fun little argument with my friend over what is considered 'social media' after he made fun of me for being in an RP club on a chess website. This brang up an interesting question-what is considered 'social media' and is chess.com, with its extensive forums and club system, social media even though its main purpose is as a chess website?
Yes, it could be considered social media. It started off with just social access, before there was the ability to play chess.
It is not as In 2019, Merriam-Webster defined social media as "forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (such as videos)." So the question is was chess.com created to share ideas and information or for people to play chess? Compared to a platform like Discord which has chess, chess is not its main draw.
Absolutely its just another online chatroom.
It is just possible that chess players generally tend to be more intelligent types, therefore it could be argued that the quality of discussion on this site should be higher than some, but this has not been tested.
