Gotham is mostly entertainment, but he's not a total baboon... that plus 1.e4 being a reasonable opening move means sure, you should be able to get to 2000 playing a reasonable opening... but you'll need more than a reasonable opening to get to 2000, and nothing Gotham says is secret. 99% of it is extremely well known, and I'd guess the other 1% is just wrong heh.

No, there is no substitute for good technique. Learning oodles of opening theory is exhausting and stops yielding results as soon as your opponent plays a slightly unusual move. That is just my opinion, but you know.
