irl tournaments Can be hard to get too, yes.

I'm not sure its SO hard in most universities though.  I would think that would be the kind of place where it is relatively easy to find a few fellow chess players?  (anyone I had to say something to the 1 week endgame mastery)

It's easy to find chess players. It's just hard to find chess players who take it very seriously and really want to put the time, effort, and money into playing or hosting regular rated events.

I would choose an occasional OTB with a casual player

over strictly playing Online.  any day of the week.

IMHO, this is nothing more instructive to a person chess player than OTB games.  the Longer the clock the better.

and as a fact, you Can only get to be a gm (of course) by playing OTB.

Only on the Chess.com forums do you seem to run into the Online Super world chess champion- (strangely  usually these guys disappear after a few loud posts)

No, after the age of 15 it is not possible to become a GM but you work very hard you may become an expert

This is opinion presented as fact.

Part of the reason that so few older players  reach their potential is because beliefs like yours are so widespread, and discourage older players from putting inthe work that is needed.  Beliefs like these are self-fulfilling. 22 is Young, Young, Young, and a 22-year-od beginner or novice should be well placed to improve quickly as they should have few bad habits to overcome.

You're wrong. The laws of physics forbid it. Your argument is invalid.

I registered on this site just to reply to the OP to help you.

Listen, give up chess if your goal is to become a GM. At least don't let it get in the way of your academic life.

You are very arrogant in the way you speak about chess. You have no idea how much work is required to become a chess GM. You must eat through hundreds of books, analyze thousands of positions and games, and basically practice/study for hours every day. Even then, the chances are low of you becoming a GM till the end of your life.

You saying that you can master endgames in weeks is completely ridiculous and that's what showed me that your game is not in fact strong. Endgames are immensely complicated and take years and years of studying to master.

You may think that you can put up a fight against 2000+ players but in fact they knew they were better at move eight and that they were winning at move 16. If a game of yours against one of those players lasted for 35 moves, that doesn't mean you were equal till move 30.

If you genuinely want to improve at chess, you must put away your arrogance and admit you know almost nothing about chess and just study and study some more.
Ignore those people who say ''don't listen to these guys, you can do anything if you just BELIEVE, no one can tell you you can't become a gm in a year!!!''. Encouraging someone is good, but if it costs you a lot of your time and grades, it will hurt you a lot. Take it from someone who thought that years of practice were not neccessary if you ''truly understand it'' and can see ''beyond the chess position'' etc. That is just arrogance talking. A 2200 player would probably think less of his game then you do of yours.

Take this as helpful advice - either put in years of studying or give it up. I won't lie to you and tell you that you can become a GM quickly if you believe in yourself and are confident in your play.
