You should adopt the mannerisms of GM's. It is well known that Russian grandmasters ofter stare at the ceiling when it's their turn to move. I suggest ceiling-staring for Mondays.

I think you're confusing Ivanchuk for being a Russian. Ukrainians are still Ukrainians, for the time being.

Probably the most insightful post I've read for many weeks.

I have played chess on and off for years but am now getting really serious about it. How long is it until I become GM? I'm thinking two weeks ought to do it but my friend said no way. I think he's just jealous of my extreme talent, which has yet to show itself in any way, but it exists I swear.

Seriously though, look at my intense training schedule:

Monday: Play chess

Tuesday: Play chess

Wednesday: Bag off

Thursday: Kick myself for not playing on Wednesday

Friday: Drink and play chess

Saturday: Drink

Sunday: Rest day

With that much practice getting to super GM status in a month should be doable. You guys should totally agree with me.

Somebody tell Magnus he better start worrying.

Warning: this is funny, you should not take it seriously or get worked up about it in any way. Unless you're one of those people, in which case you should stop being one of those people.

Yeah, he better stop worrying! He always loses to 1523 rated players. If you study every day for 20 years you can become a GM. (Don't read the small text) I am almost a GM.

i study every day, why am i not a GM?

winerkleiner

I am a GM already, Generally Mad.

Maybe you should try studying every other day.

I think your problem is that you only drink on Fridays and Saturdays.

My supposition is that you have a job, which effectively prevents you from boozing your way up to titled rank.

Maddolis

So wait, the others are insinuating you can play chess sober?

winerkleiner

Lol

EDB123

playing chess sober is very interesting. you first think about chess, and then your mind wanders. See, toronto's mayor, Rob Ford, would be great at chess.

Senator-Blutarsky

Chess should be played the irish way, in pubs.

EDB123

how about on top of the pubs?

Senator-Blutarsky

too much rain and the players would slide off after about 11 pints.

EDB123

i was thinking that they'd slip off after they dran 13, after all, it is an unlucky number.

Senator-Blutarsky

oh yes, i knew i forgot to add something:

"give or take a few".

EDB123

lol.

winerkleiner

How about alley chess?
