Can I get a title?

Hello. When I was 8, I learned chess and enjoy it. Until I was 12. Once I made a mistake in a game, my coach was very angry and throw a knight to me ,which hit my eye. Then I never come to the chess class again and my life had changed.

It was ten years I almost never play chess. But last winter, I read a novel about chess, which written by Stefan Zweig. It was moving, so I started to try some game on chess.com.

My connect is not very well, so I only play rapid. Today I have have a rapid at 2321. Now I want to participate in some FIDE tournaments and here is the problem. I am not sure of my skill level. Whether I am strong enough to get a title, like FM?

FIDE doesnt just "give" you a title based on some online speed chess games.

I know. I am ready to join in some competitions. I am just not sure of my skill level. Because to join in a competition needs time and money. If I am not strong enough, I should practice more first.

You need to join FIDE and play in official FIDE tournaments that are in-person (not online). You must play at least 26 games at official tournaments and then you will get your rating. If it’s high enough, you will get a title. Good luck.

I think it’s possible, u seem very good for having taken 10 years off and just returning to the game last winter. It would obviously take lots of work. I know it’s hard to compare online and OTB ratings. Here’s a video that explains what it takes to get the different titles: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X4nTq2XPvAc

Let me try that link again

Maybe I just made a mistake? My english is not very good. I should use a word like tournament, not competition.

OK, thanks friends. I think I should have a try.

Your English is very good, it was clear what u meant, that you want to play FIDE tournaments and are wondering if you’ll be good enough to earn a title through those tournaments (not your online games). Problem is nobody can really tell you whether or not you are good enough. It’s hard to compare online ratings to FIDE. Only way to find out is to follow Nikki’s advice.

FIDE doesn't require 26 games to get a rating and it's at least 30 to get a title (with some exceptions for events that give automatic titles for certain performances/results)

Meme story and rating vs PR is a bit off... seems sus.

It's true. When I left the class, every one, including my parents, tried to persuade me to back. They said he was only had too much expectation on you. What they said was right. I don't think my coach is a bad person, I just cannot accept.
