Can I listen to music during tournaments?

Hi there!

I normally listen to music whilst playing chess, and I'm wondering if that would be allowed in a tournament setting. I have an ipod classic, so there wouldn't be the potential of using an engine, so I figure it would probably be fine.

Thanks for your input!

I assume you mean OTB.  If so, I would highly doubt that you could listen to music.  Especially if it was the top ten hit 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3...

Ah, ok. Thanks for the response!

I would object to someone with ear phones because of cheating how about the sounds of silence?

Superqueen500

Definitely not, because of how easily you could have moves being relayed, even while music is playing.

In USCF you may listen to music as long as it isn't too loud, and the TD and opponent agree to it. In FIDE, however, no electronic devices whatsoever are allowed inside the tournament hall.

I use my ipod for USCF tournaments. Most of  the time it's not a problem. As long as it's not something like a tablet or a phone where you can get help from an engine.
